295 The NOAA Climate Variability and Predictability (CVP) Program Contributions to YMC and PISTON: Observing and Understanding Processes Affecting the Maritime Continent Region

Monday, 7 January 2019
Hall 4 (Phoenix Convention Center - West and North Buildings)
Sandy Lucas, NOAA, Silver Spring, MD

The NOAA Climate Variability and Predictability (CVP) Program supports research aimed at providing process-level understanding of the climate system through observation, modeling, analysis, and field studies. This vital knowledge is needed to improve climate models and predictions so that scientists can better anticipate the impacts of future climate variability and change. In 2017, the CVP Program focused on observing and understanding processes affecting the propagation of intraseasonal oscillations in the Maritime Continent region. This will present expected scientific outcomes and programmatic collaborations with the Office of Naval Research (ONR), Indonesian Agency for Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics (BMKG), and other partners.
