The Advanced Weather Interactive Processing System (AWIPS)is a key component of the weather warning and forecasting operations of the National Weather Service (NWS),and the central point for the collection and distribution of hydro-meteorological data throughout the continental United States and in Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and Guam.

The AWIPS Network Control Facility, supported by Raytheon, performs telecommunications services, technical support, and data archiving, Its day-to-day functions includes: broadcasting weather data over the Satellite Broadcast Network, monitoring all AWIPS site equipment and the AWIPS communications network, and providing 24x7x365 technical support to all AWIPS field sites. In an effort to highlight how Raytheon’s Network Control Facility helps support AWIPS and the National Weather Service, this presentation will provide details on the roles and responsibilities of the Network Control Facility to include the technology and tools used to provide continuous 24x7x365 support to the AWIPS community.
