2019 will mark the 4th annual U.S. Regional Student Research Symposium program sponsored by GLOBE (Global Learning and Observations to Benefit the Environment). Each year, students from six different regions spanning the United States present research utilizing field data collected using GLOBE protocols and shared with the international GLOBE database of observations. While participation is open to all students in grades 5-12, travel support is prioritized for high-needs schools and students who have not attended traditional science fair competitions. In 2018, the six regional symposia took place in Michigan, New York, Montana, North Carolina, California, and North Carolina. This presentation includes successes and lessons learned in this effort to increase and broaden participation in earth systems science.
