The NOAA National Environmental Satellite Data and Information Service (NESDIS) provides operational environmental satellite data products to a broad user community for weather prediction and research. New satellite derived data product development and enhancement efforts require considerable resources; therefore, it is critical that a streamlined process be established to manage the prioritization for these products to determine which projects are funded.

NESDIS engages the Product System Development and Implementation (PSDI) Annual Review Executive Board members, consisting of NOAA Line Office representatives to the Low-Earth Orbiting Requirements Working Group (LORWG) and GOES-R Operational Requirements Working Group (GORWG), to prioritize proposed satellite development projects. NESDIS assesses these prioritizations to finalize which projects require Satellite Products and Services Review Board (SPSRB) approved project plans and which projects are presented at the PSDI Annual Review for funding consideration. Adhering to the revised process is critical to the success of NESDIS meeting its mission of developing and transitioning new and enhanced satellite products into operations. This paper will describe the newly revised process and its benefits, highlighting greater efficiency in the use of resources and alignment with strategic paths forward.
