CSEP stands for Citizen Science Education Program. It is a program founded by middle school students in 2012 - 2013. The AMS was instrumental in encouraging these young women to pursue creating a program with main objectives of 1) developing junior scientists through scientist collaboration and joint research, particularly within the GLOBE program and 2) improving the scientific literacy of the community by students teaching community members about important science concepts. The program is now in its 6th year. Students at “CSEPCentral” have educated over 1000 adults/children. Students also have conducted research, often jointly with scientists, focusing on satellites and remote sensing, as well as the atmospheric and climatic sciences. These junior scientists have presented their research at the Satellites and Education Conference in California, Student Research Symposia in New Jersey and New York, and most recently, eight CSEPers were among almost 200 students from around the World at the GLOBE Learning Expedition in Killarney, Ireland. Now, the program is ready to be duplicated. Other schools across the world are encouraged to join this journey of “Students Making a Difference, Improving Scientific Literacy Around the Globe.” This presentation will explain the program and how others can create a Citizen Science Education Program at their school.
