In 2017, ASU Library undertook a multi-institutional collaborative planning process to explore the future of print in academic libraries. This process resulted in a white paper, The Future of the Academic Library Print Collection: A Space for Engagement, which explores potential approaches for fostering engagement using print collections. Based on these ideas, ASU began work on a three-year implementation grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to reinvent the library’s strategy and practices for open stack print collections. We will share what we are learning from our investigations of engagement with library collections, and pose several ideas for consideration.
