Accurate seasonal predictions of tropical storms and hurricanes are important for coastal community readiness as well as insurance companies. This research project explores the use of machine learning to correlate seasonal-scale atmospheric and oceanic information to the occurrence of tropical storms and hurricanes in the Atlantic Basin. Results may indicate pathways to new techniques for organizations in government and private industry focused on increasing the skill of seasonal tropical storm forecasting.
