The science of event attribution has emerged very quickly into its own field of climate science research over the last few years. Not least because of the very high public interest plans are now very advanced to take this research from the sphere of peer-reviewed analysis into operational services. Having conducted several rapid analysis with the World Weather Attribution (WWA) initiative we found that doing science while public is watching improved methods and communication very quickly but many challenges remain. One of them is to find meaningful ways of defining events that actually are closely related to the impacts. Another one is a consistent treatment of uncertainty and quality assessment of the evidence.
