Louis W. Uccellini, NOAA Assistant Administrator for Weather Services and NWS Director, Silver Spring, MD

The National Weather Service (NWS) has been advancing to more effectively carry-out its Mission and to work toward realizing its Vision of building a Weather-Ready Nation. The NWS aims to reduce the impacts of weather, water, and climate events by transforming the way people receive, understand, and act on information. The NWS now delivers Impact-based Decision Support Services (IDSS) through a collaborative forecast process, connecting directly to public service decision makers at the federal, state, local, tribal nations, and territory government levels. The NWS is also working to improve operations by improving the observations, models, and dissemination components of today forecast process. This presentation will update the status of this transformation and related upgrades to the NWS infrastructure with a focus on how we are succeeding to make every community ready, responsive, and resilient in the face of the onset of extreme weather and water events through our improved forecasts and IDSS.
