Commander, Naval Meteorology and Oceanography Command traces its roots back 190 years, and we are proud to celebrate the centennial meeting of the American Meteorological Society. Naval Meteorology and Oceanography is the Department of Defense’s authoritative source for characterization and application of data to the physical environment. Our worldwide command leverages this data to ensure that the U.S. Navy has the freedom of action to deter aggression, maintain the freedom of the seas and win wars. We are excited to highlight recent achievements and showcase future technical advancements in coupled global air-sea-ice models producing ensemble intra-seasonal forecasts for long-range planning, tropical cyclone forecasts, automation and supercomputing.
