The GOES-R satellite series is now occupying the operational GOES-East and GOES-West roles. The technological advances of the Advanced Baseline Imager (ABI), particularly the mesoscale scans every 30 or 60 seconds, are supporting the vital warning and forecast operations of the National Weather Service (NWS), National Environmental Satellite, Data, and Information Service (NESDIS), the international community, in addition to various missions in the research community, and the Department of Defense (DoD)

This presentation will cover the process of requesting a Mesoscale Domain Sector and how NOAA’s prioritizes these requests for operations and also supports the research and international user community. This presentation will showcase various MDS operational and research events, highlighting the impact of 30 second to 1-minute scans, the types of phenomena being studied, and benefit to the operational and research communities.
