The State Climate Office of North Carolina is one of the most active state climate offices in the country, with a rich 43-year history of serving the people of North Carolina. The mission of the State Climate Office of North Carolina (SCONC) as a public service center at NC State University is to define, predict, and disseminate information about the climatic and environmental factors that impact the people of North Carolina. It is an organization dedicated to public service through extension activities that include the collection and dissemination of climate information pertaining to North Carolina. The SCONC is involved in many efforts in the state of North Carolina across many sectors (e.g. forestry, agriculture, water). Additionally, the SCONC consults with decision makers on climate matters to help facilitate environmental stewardship in the state. In 2019, SCONC hired its fifth director and is undergoing a strategic planning effort. SCONC is working with fellow scientists in the state of North Carolina to help the state agencies fulfill its mandate under Governor Roy Cooper's Executive Order 80 on climate change. This talk will explore where we've been, where we're going, and where we want to go.
