The Oklahoma Mesonet is a network of meteorological observation stations across the state of Oklahoma and has been collecting data for over 25 years. This study took a bibliometrics approach to analyzing past and present users of Oklahoma Mesonet data through peer reviewed publications, masters’ theses, and doctoral dissertations. Results showed that, while the Oklahoma Mesonet was designed to provide meteorological and agricultural data to those in Oklahoma, the reach of users expands well beyond the state’s borders and within many different fields of study. This indicates that observation networks such as the Oklahoma Mesonet serve as a valuable resource globally and benefit more than their initial intended purpose.
