A recent study of data generated by the Copyright Review Program of the HathiTrust suggests that over fifty percent of materials published from 1924-1963 may now be in the public domain due to lack of copyright renewal. This presentation will report on the incidence of lapsed copyright in the atmospheric sciences and examine the copyright status of popular atmospheric science textbooks from that era. Results suggest that significant numbers of works are now in the public domain and may be useful in supplementing offerings of open educational resources.
