The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) Office of the Assistant Secretary for Research and Technology’s John A. Volpe National Transportation System Center (Volpe) operates the Aviation Weather Research Facility (AWRF) which is comprised of a 155-acre test range along with an operations building. It is located in the heart of Joint Base Cape Cod (JBCC) near Falmouth, Massachusetts.It is in Close Proximity to KFMH – (US Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod) and approximately 80 miles southeast of Boston. The area is known for inclement weather conditions throughout the year, making it an ideal outdoor laboratory for the evaluation of weather sensors and transportation enabling technologies.
