The Global Risk Assessment Framework (GRAF), as part of the 2019 Global Assessment Report for Disaster Risk Reduction (GAR) by the UN Office of Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), launched in Geneva at the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction in May 2019. The GRAF is an opportunity to create the multi-stakeholder “tool box” for developing and sharing risk information and promoting a pro-active culture of risk-informed decision-making. Its objective is to improve the understanding and management of current and future risks, at all scales, to better manage uncertainties and mobilize people, innovation and finance. Implementation of the GRAF includes representatives from Earth Observation science, big data, technical modelling and the insurance industry as well as special interest groups such as youth. The GRAF invites participation through collaborative demonstration projects and engagement in four working groups (interdisciplinary approaches, communications & IT, mapping & gap analysis, demonstration and pilots). By providing actionable insights, tools and demonstrations at relevant scales to decision makers on a timely basis the GRAF can build collective intelligence to steer societies towards the shared metrics of the 2030 Agenda, the Sendai Framework, the Paris Agreement and the New Urban Agenda. This talk will update the community on opportunities and progress putting science to work for resilience.
