Water resources management and ecosystems health are critical objectives of the adaptive management program in the Gran Canyon. In this study, we investigate the magnitude and seasonality of flood events in the Grand Canyon with an eye towards characterizing the relative role of east Pacific tropical cyclones and North American monsoon. Statistical analysis of historical records is used to develop extreme precipitation and flood distribution estimates, as well as their seasonality. Interannual and long-term variability in floods is examined with a goal to anticipated the remote controls on Grand Canyon ecosystem and water resources.
