5.1 Recent Verification of CPC Operational Outlooks and New Activities

The Climate Prediction Center as part of NOAA's National Weather Service prepares and releases operational outlooks that span several forecast horizons for both the U.S. as well as other specific international areas. A verification review will be presented of operational outlooks from FY13 to the present and will utilize a few common skill measures. Forecasts reviewed will include the Days 6-10/8-14 temperature, precipitation, 500-hPa height outlooks and select forecast tools, monthly and seasonal temperature and precipitation outlooks and associated forecast tools, the seasonal and monthly drought outlooks and the Global Tropics Hazards and Benefits Outlook. Recent work on new or improved forecast tools and products will also be presented.
