Grand Ballroom Center (DoubleTree Hotel & EMC - Downtown, Omaha)
James Hansen, NRL, Monterey, CA

The Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) announces the creation of the Probabilistic Prediction Research Office (PRO), based at the Marine Meteorology Division in Monterey, CA. PRO provides science and technology (S&T) leadership to the Navy in issues associated with probabilistic prediction for the atmosphere and battlespace environment by i) coordinating in-house research and development efforts, ii) educating customers and sponsors in the value of probabilistic approaches in S&T and operations, iii) actively reaching out to the broader scientific community through workshops and a Visiting Scientist Program, and iv) facilitating the development of forecaster training, assessment, and operational tools to best exploit probabilistic forecast guidance. Examples in each of these areas will be presented along with opportunities for NRL employment, visits, and collaboration.
