Typhoon Hunter 2001 In Japan
Tetsuo Nakazawa, MRI, Tsukuba, Japan; and K. Bessho
In late July 2001, we had a special observation for typhoon, Typhoon Hunter 2001, by Aerosonde in Okinawa. The total flight time was 54 hours and we succeeded to have a sounding near the typhoon TORAJI. Aerosonde was located at the north-eastern side of the typhoon 400 km away from the center. The sounding shows that the tangential wind speed increased when Aerosonde approached closer to the center and the radial wind speed was almost always outward from the center even near the surface.
