Application of Aerosondes to Understanding Hurricanes
Brenda Mulac, Univ. of Colorado, Boulder, CO; and G. J. Holland and J. Curry
Aerosonde robotic aircraft have been making observations in a variety of tropical convective situations, including hurricanes and typhoons. Most recently the Aerosondes participated in CAMEX-4. An overview will be given of the Aerosonde capabilities relative to hurricanes. Logistical and regulatory issues will be discussed. Some recent observations of atmospheric soundings, sea surface temperature, and low level mesoscale variability will be described.
