On the performance of brick and concrete masonry in windstorms

The author has encountered controversial issues involving the assessment of damage to brick and concrete masonry after tornadoes and hurricanes. This paper will explore how wind damages masonry and how it does not. Examples will be presented from the authors inspections of hundreds of masonry walls in the wake of such severe windstorms.
