Building Damage Issues in Hurricanes
Timothy P. Marshall, Haag Engineering Co., Carrolloton, TX
Buildings along the coast are subjected to wind and water (wave) action during hurricanes and tropical storms. Controversies arise in separating the two types of damages due to insurance reasons. This paper will present a methodology in how to distinguish between wind and water damage to a building as well as explore some of the myths involved in assessing the damage.
