The eyewall of Hurricane Fabian (Category Three on the Saffir-Simpson scale), passed over Bermuda on Friday, September 5, 2003, causing widespread damage and the loss of four lives. Some official and unofficial observations during Fabian's passage are reported here, as recorded by the Bermuda Weather Service, GPS dropsondes and other local sources. These observations are corroborated, where possible, by remotely sensed data. The presence of boundary layer jets in Fabian's eye and outer region will be discussed. The possible occurrence of tornadoes in the eyewall will also be commented on.
