RAINEX Overview – Airborne Doppler Radar Data

This paper intends to follow the two RAINEX overview papers and focuses on describing the airborne Doppler radar data collected during RAINEX by three P3s. Airborne Doppler radar data quality will be assessed and reported. The navigation corrections of the ELDORA data will be evaluated. Examples of scan plane data and dual-Doppler radar analysis in Hurricanes Katrina, Ophelia and Rita will be presented on rainbands and eyewall evolution.
