Typhoon is the major source of tornado. It causes 18% of all tornadoes in Japan.
The present analytical study aims to clarify the characteristic such tornadoes caused by typhoons. We picked up 187 tornadoes from 1961 to 2013 listed in the tornado database made by Japan Meteorological Agency.
Most of these tornadoes occurred in the outer rainband of typhoon. Some of them, however, occurred more than 1000 km apart from the eye of typhoon.
We also examined environmental indices for tornadogenesis around typhoon.
