Session Wildfire Observations from Satellite for Pre-fire, During-fire and Post-fire Applications

Description:

In this session we are soliciting abstracts that use satellites to map pre-, during, and postfire hazards in near real-time. This includes methods that isolate signals used to forecast wildfire potential (e.g., fuel and moisture characteristics), detect new fires, track fire spread and smoke, map burn areas and quantify burn area recovery, hazards, and impacts. We are especially interested in new methods to fuse data from multiple sensors to optimize resolution in time and space, and methods to track burn area recovery particularly related to flash flood/debris-flow hazards. We encourage abstracts that use physics-based models with look-up tables or machine learning models. We also encourage abstracts that create companion datasets useful to study wildfires from satellites including from non-satellite sources.
