Ground-based Hail and Wind Sensor Networks Operating in Real-time

Understory builds and deploys weather stations that deliver ground-truth data in real-time. Our stations are unique in that they provide industrial-grade measurements of hail momentum and inferred hail size and impact angle. They also measure rainfall, wind speed and direction, temperature, humidity, and pressure. In this contribution, we provide an overview of the capabilities of our stations and report on the accuracy of our measurements. We also describe our current footprint and outline our future plans for expansion. Understory data is free for academic researchers. We discuss data access and usage restrictions.
