This study examines the relationship between the Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation (AMO) and the tropical intraseasonal variability, especially the Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO) and convectively coupled equatorial waves (CCEWs). The datasets used include daily NOAA outgoing longwave radiation (OLR) data from 1979-2008 and large-scale surface and atmospheric conditions from the NCEP/NCAR Reanalysis for the corresponding time period. Space-time spectral analysis is used to isolate the MJO and CCEW signals. The results show significant modulation of MJO and CCEWs by the AMO. Detailed results will be presented at the conference.
