Comparison of forecasts of widespread precipitation during the Sydney 2000 forecast project
Norman Donaldson, MSC, King City, ON, Canada; and M. W. Sleigh, C. Pierce, A. Seed, and T. Saxon
During the Sydney nowcasting project, four systems produced extrapolations forecasts of precipitation. The forecast algorithms were differing combinations of advection by correlation tracking or NWP, upstream or downstream linking, and with or without evolution. This talk will compare the performance in context of how well the algorithms' underlying assumptions were met. The four systems were SPROG (BoM), Autonowcaster(NCAR), Nimrod (UKMO) and CARDS (Canada).
