Eddy covariance flux estimates are commonly calculated using block-averaging. The length of the averaging period has been the subject of extensive research, but the averaging method most appropriate for eddy covariance calculations has received less attention. In this study alternatives to block-averaging are explored. These alternatives are applied to flux data and compared to the block-averaging method. Adherence of these new methods to the rules of Reynolds averaging is also discussed.
