The Forecast is Partly Funny
Norman Dvoskin, News 12 Long Island, Melville, NY
The weather segment of the news usually offers a breather from the somber events of the day. Without a script, a weathercaster has the opportunity to appear warm and friendly and to mix humor into the presentation. While this may be entertaining, it can be a distraction to the viewer and even get you into trouble. I've learned from my mistakes and have developed some ground rules for blending humor into the format of weather news. The objectives are to retain your credibility, get your message across and avoid controversy.
