While everyone knows what message to convey when a severe thunderstorm or a tornado warning is issued by the National Weather Service, "Call To Action" (CTA) statements are included on all NWS warning products to encourage appropriate action during emergency situations. In a tornado warning situation, the message is obvious, "Take Cover!"

The National Weather Service depends on those in the broadcast media to help carry a precise and consistent message in order to save lives during severe weather. But, why wait until the warning is issued? There are messages and preparations that can be communicated in order to help prepare people for the onset and effects of severe weather.

This presentation will introduce messages that can be delivered during severe weather outlooks that indicate a moderate or high risk of severe storms. It will also include messages that are appropriate when there is a tornado or severe thunderstorm watch as well as a watch that includes the "Particularly Dangerous Situation" designation. These statements will include suggestions on how to prepare for severe weather for your area.
