AMS & NOAA Budget Campaign
Erik L. Salna, KBMT-TV, Beaumont, TX
At the 31st AMS Conference on Broadcast Meteorology last year at Colonial Williamsburg, AMS Broadcast Board Members met with NOAA Administrator Adm. Conrad Lautenbacher (Ret.). The meeting focused on how AMS could help NOAA. It was decided that broadcast meteorologists could help by supporting adequate federal funding for NOAA’s budget. Currently, there are critical budget shortfalls threatening the adequacy of NOAA’s research and services. To help eliminate these shortfalls, broadcast meteorologists are encouraged to contact their Congressional Delegation and urge them to support adequate funding for NOAA. This can be done by e-mails, letters, phone calls and meetings. AMS will provide assistance and information for these contacts.
