Mass fluxes in East Pacific warm pool

Carlos López Carrillo, New Mexico Tech, Socorro, NM; and D. Raymond

In this work, we explore the applicability of a dual-Doppler technique to data collected by a quasi-stationary Doppler radar. We applied this technique to recover the mesoscale wind field from data obtained by a C-band Doppler radar during the field campaign EPIC-2001(East Pacific Investigation of Climate 2001). The radar was mounted on board the NOAA(National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) vessel Ron H. Brown. Mass fluxes derived from the Cartesian velocities will be presented along with an analysis of the errors involved in the synthesis of the velocities.
