The parameter-fitting method of L-moments is applied to direct measurements of raindrop sizes collected with hydrometeor imaging instruments, on the armored T-28 research aircraft. We fit exponential, gamma, and lognormal functions to the observed size distributions and use the goodness-of-fit technique to identify the functions that best represent the raindrop size distributions in selected regions of clouds.
