Public attention to anthropogenic climate change has blossomed since the release of the documentary film, An Inconvenient Truth. The heightened visibility of this issue has led to disagreements among broadcast meteorologists on the magnitude of global climate change and to what extent its causes are anthropogenic. Given the substantial media attention to this issue, these disagreements have increasingly become public, and consequently, more polarizing.
Using a web-based, anonymous survey similar to those used at previous broadcast conferences, an attempt will be made to quantify these divisions within the broadcast meteorology community and to determine if there is a fundamental difference in perspective on this issue between broadcast meteorologists and climatologists. It is hoped that the results of this survey will enhance open scientific dialogue between all members of the Society.
