During the NASA CPEX-CV field campaign, the NASA DC-8 flew missions into a variety of African Easterly Waves (AEWs) over the Eastern Atlantic during September 2022. This work will leverage the automated tracker of Lawton et al. (2023) to extract wave relative parameters for comparison to a climatology of AEWs during September to provide an assessment of how characteristic the sampled waves were. The differences between the developing and non-developing waves will also be compared, with an analysis of how well represented the synoptic scale features of the AEWs are captured by the global reanalysis and forecast models with respect to observations gathered during the CPEX campaign.
