The W-band satellite cloud profiling radar such as CloudSat is now operating on the orbit, and the Cloud Profiling Doppler Radar on the EarthCARE satellite (hereafter EarthCARE/CPR) will be launched. The National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT) is developing EarthCARE/CPR, cooperative with Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA). Our contribution for the EarthCARE/CPR is not only hardware development but also the activity for the calibration and validation of CPR product. The footprint of satellite CPR is the order of 1 km, but that of nominal ground based CPR is the order of 100m at 10 km range. For the direct comparison between both footprint, the scanning capability is necessary. The mechanical scanning of the antenna is easy to install but the disadvantage is that it takes time of whole scanning. We are starting to develop the electrical scanning antenna for W-band cloud profiling radar as the 1st step. The result of partial model of the electrical scanning antenna will be reported.
