The proliferation of dual polarization weather radars during the past decade has led to improvements in the detection of severe weather events, resolution of precipitation types, improved weather forecasts, more timely weather warnings, and improved public safety. While the weather enterprise has benefited from dual polarization radars and the products generated from the radar base variables, there has been an ongoing effort to improve the quality of the radar data and the resultant products.
Baron Services, Inc., a global leader in providing critical weather intelligence to its customers through its dual polarization radar systems, has focused its efforts on improving radar data quality and creation of highly accurate radar products. Baron has developed and implemented innovative approaches to radar hardware design, radar calibration, clutter mitigation, and radar processing that has led to improvements in radar products for use by forecasters and end users of radar data. This presentation will detail some of these innovations, provide validation of the improvements in data quality, and the resultant improvements in the radar data products.
