System Design of The Next Generation Weather Radar for Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC)

In 2016 Selex-ES GmbH has been awarded the turnkey contract for renewing the Canadian weather radar network. The ECCC radar network will be renewed with the state of the art S-Band klystron radars METEOR 1700 SDP 09. The first prototype is currently under test at Selex-ES facilities and will be installed towards the end of 2017 in Canada. This publication summarizes all system pertinent hardware and software features. In particular the function and performance highlights for the subsystems transmitter, antenna and receiver along with calibration topics are presented and discussed.
