As content on station websites continues to expand, there have been further demands on meteorologists to maintain a station blog. Usually, these blogs will focus on a local feature of weather or climate. As a matter of practicality, blogs usually avoid topics that viewers may find controversial.
However, a unique dilemma arose last spring: An elected official initiated a legal conflict against a professional climate scientist. As the only member of the news staff with professional training in earth science, does it become an appropriate role of the meteorologist to comment on such a story via the station blog?
The presentation reviews the processes leading to the author's use of the station blog in an attempt to balance the roles of meteorologist, station scientist, and commentator.
