2.3 Managing media interactions during VORTEX2 - lessons learned

The Verification of the Origins of Rotation in Tornadoes Experiment 2009-2010 offered an unusual opportunity to share weather science with the public. The NOAA National Severe Storms Laboratory took a proactive approach with the media and used different strategies to get reporters as close to the science as possible without interfering with data collection. These strategies, lessons learned, and the successful use of blogs and social media to reach a wider audience will be discussed.
