Wednesday, 22 August 2012: 2:15 PM
Georgian (Boston Park Plaza)
Steven E. Glazier, South Burlington, VT; and K. A. Jeromin

The weather team at WFFF-WVNY Burlington, VT worked the entirity of Irene from start to finish with live updates, coverage, real-time updates and pictures from emergency management, as well as the preceding days to the storm. In the end Irene brought area rivers to never-before-seen levels and in some cases, water carved new destructive paths. Prior to the storm meteorologists Kerrin Jeromin and Steve Glazier predicted a widespread four to eight inch rain accumulation. The forecast verified well, but the impact was underestimated. Kerrin and Steve will discuss what went right, what went wrong, and how they will use Irene as an example to take forecasts beyond the prediction and to the impact of forecasts. They will also discuss other record events that contributed to the wettest year on record in many towns in 2011.
