6.2 Houston's First TWO Flash Flood Emergencies: How the Weather Enterprise and Social Media Excelled During the Memorial Day and Tax Day Floods

Houston's first flash flood emergency occurred the night of Memorial Day, 2015, when 11" of rain sent bayous to record levels, stranding thousands of motorists for hours on freeways and putting water into over 6,000 homes.

This presentation will include: 1.) A brief meteorological recap of the event. 2.) A look at how broadcast and mobile platforms were used to push information while social media platforms were effectively used to push information *and* to crowdsource information. 3.) Examples of how the weather enterprise worked effectively through the use of the iNWS chat room.
