Wednesday, 21 June 2023: 1:45 PM
Sonoran Sky Ballroom Salon 5 (Arizona Grand Resort & Spa )
Linda Maynard, Climavision, Louisville, KY

Due to the Rocky Mountains' proximity, Arizona is susceptible to many severe weather events including tornadoes, flash flooding, haboobs, and hailstorms. within a short time period. These phenomena highlight the need for high spatiotemporal low-level atmospheric coverage to better understand the mechanisms that initiate the storms and provide better tracking. The presentation will provide an overview of historical wind, hail, and tornado reports across Arizona, while highlighting events such as the October 2010 outbreak. An introduction to Climavision’s supplemental radar network will be provided throughout the state of Arizona. Hydrological and meteorological impacts to people and industry will be discussed to demonstrate the benefits of the radar network.
