WES Initiatives in North Carolina

Frankie C. Vann, Sampson County Schools Alternative Program, Clinton, NC

In North Carolina, we have been able to offer Datastreme and Water and Earth Systems to interested teachers across the state for many years. Last year, we continued our location for having our WES meetings at the National Weather Service Office in Raleigh. This has provided us with additional resources such as NWS personnel for tours and daily weather briefings. We have made an effort to mail WES and Datastreme information to the the minority college contacts in North Carolina with applications for WES and Datastreme, hoping to encourage qualified teachers from their areas to take the courses. This year we hope to have joint Datastreme and WES meetings the fall semester. Finally, I am working with using WES and At-Risk students with the hope of finding alternative learning methods with middle school students.
