METEOROLOGY FOR EDUCATION MAJORS AND TEACHERS

Roberto Garza, University of Houston, Houston, TX

The University of Houston-Downtown, an urban university, which has been recognized as a Hispanic Serving Institution, as well as a Minority Serving Institution, has implemented a new course in Meteorology at the freshman level. The course will be offered in Spring 2004 and will be a part of the science core curriculum. The course will use the Online Weather Studies component developed by the American Meteorological Society. Since summer 2003, the exercises of the Online Weather Studies course have been used in workshops for secondary science teachers of the Houston Independent School District. The Online Weather Studies have also been used in an Earth Sciences class for elementary education majors.
