Abstract:

The Satellite Services Division of the Office of Satellite Data Processing and Distribution, an office of the National Environmental Satellite Data and Information Service, a service of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) under the Department of Commerce provides NOAA satellite data and derived products to various users throughout the world. The geographic information system (GIS) development team of the Satellite Services Division (SSD) has completed conversion of many datasets from SSD into GIS formats for the purpose of providing satellite data and products to a more diverse user group.

Available satellite data include Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES) , Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR), Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS), and various derived products. These include GOES image derived winds, GOES sea surface temperature and MODIS ocean color. This data is made available via file transfer protocol (ftp) and GIS internet mapping services.
