Some multi-scale interactions between key elements of the North American Monsoon System are examined. Emphasis is placed on a synthesis of early results from the North American Monsoon Experiment (NAME) Field Campaign, carried out during the NH summer of 2004 to develop improved North American warm season precipitation forecasts. Several topics are addressed including terrain influences on the diurnal cycle of convection, tropical cyclone-gulf surge-precipitation relationships, and the relative influences of ENSO and the MJO on regional monsoon precipitation patterns.
